In the mid '60s only two furniture stores and one construction business provided carpet to the area and was mostly area rugs. Wall-to-wall installations were not introduced into this rural area because there were no trained installers. John, having 12 years experience ventured into business with his wife, Lorraine servicing Rappahannock, Fauquier and Culpeper counties where they grew up.
In 1969, The Early's built a store next door to their home and by 1971 a warehouse was added to the back. The addition expanded the store from 3,200 sf to 11,400 sf. The huge facility houses the stock, which includes an inventory of carpet and vinyl rolls, hardwood, laminate, ceramic, an Oriental rug rack that holds over 200 rugs, a large cutting machine, and hundreds of remnants.
Later, the store became the "One stop shop for all your home decorating needs", with the exception of wallpaper and paint, which were deleted in the late '70s. Lorraine and the sales staff helped customers with decorating selections, custom window treatments, blinds, shades, shutters, bedspreads, slipcovers, and re-upholstery of furniture. Everything was coordinated in one store, and it is still that way today. Jn 2016, we enjoyed another addition of 1,184 sf for office and training space, leaving more space in the showroom for product display and customers.
